MANCHESTER, England - An injury to star striker Sergio Aguero cast a shadow over champion Manchester Citys hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton in the English Premier League on Saturday.Yaya Toure converted a first-half penalty as City cut Chelseas lead at the top to only three points, but the immediate concern was for top scorer Aguero. The Argentine appeared in tears after hurting his left knee in the second minute of what proved a dull contest at Etihad Stadium, giving City a major Champions League fitness scare.City travels to Roma for its decisive final group game on Wednesday. It is already without the suspended Toure while two other key players, Vincent Kompany and David Silva, require fitness tests.(Aguero) has a problem in his ligament, in his knee, City manager Manuel Pellegrini said. We will see tomorrow how serious it is but its not good news, I dont think he will be able to play next week.Aguero went down clutching his knee after a challenge by Muhamed Besic. He limped halfway round the field and headed down the tunnel, leaving City anxiously awaiting news of his condition.Edin Dzeko, back on the bench after a calf injury, initially seemed the man to take his place but Pellegrini opted to give youngster Jose Pozo a chance in the lone front role. The loss of Aguero dampened the atmosphere and it was not until the 20th minute that City first seriously threatened but Toure dragged a shot well wide. The picture changed soon after when referee Andre Marriner pointed to the spot after a coming together between James Milner and Phil Jagielka in the area. Milner went down but quickly got up and did not appear to be looking for a penalty, but Marriner felt he had been impeded. Toure did not argue and rifled home the spot kick.Chances were few and far between, although Samir Nasri created a good opportunity for City with a nice turn, only for Sylvain Distin to get his head in the way. At the other end Kevin Mirallas had a volley deflected wide as he latched on to Pablo Zabaletas clearance.City had another injury scare when Toure hurt his knee, also after being challenged by Besic, but he soon ran it off.Pozo had a great chance to double the hosts lead early in the second half after fine work by Milner down the left. The 18-year-old Spaniard looked certain to score as he was picked out in front of goal but Tim Howard, sent the wrong way, somehow saved with his feet.Samuel Etoo almost equalized as Everton, with Ross Barkley introduced off the bench, tried to force themselves back into the game.City sent on Frank Lampard in the hope of finding extra impetus and the veteran midfielder made an instant impact. Lampard picked out Dzeko with a fine crossfield pass and the Bosnians nod-down fell nicely for Milner — but he miscued his volley. As the game went into the last 10 minutes England goalkeeper Joe Hart showed why he is reportedly poised to sign a lucrative new deal with a fine one-handed save to keep out a powerful volley from Romelu Lukaku. Here are some of the best from Week Eight and players to watch for Week Nine: TOP PERFORMERS Stefan Logan, RB, B.C. (194 YDS, 1 TD, 24 touches at Toronto) - No Andrew Harris, no problem for the Lions, who turned Logan loose against the Argos Sunday and watched the 5-foot-6 runner go for nearly 200 yards, pushing Logan to fifth in the league in rushing yards through the first eight weeks, with 376 yards on the ground, a 5.4 yards per carry. Rob Bagg, WR, Saskatchewan (90 YDS, 1 TD, 6 REC vs. Montreal) - The veteran Canadian could be on his way to his best season, particularly if his recent numbers hold up. Over the past three games, Bagg has 244 yards receiving on 16 catches and now leads the Roughriders with 359 receiving yards on the season. Ricky Ray, QB, Toronto (49-for-72, 478 YDS, 5 TD, 2 INT vs. Winnipeg and B.C.) - The first game of the week, against Winnipeg, went much better for Ray and the Argos, than Sunday nights game against B.C., but the overall total made for a productive week for Ray, who is now the leagues leader in passing yardage, with 2,165, seven yards ahead of Winnipegs Drew Willy. Curtis Steele, RB, Toronto (188 YDS, 2 TD, 27 touches vs. Winnipeg and B.C.) - A part-time back who had not recordded 10 touches in a game since last August, Steele had 119 yards and a couple of scores on a dozen touches against Winnipeg, then added 69 yards on 15 touches against B.dddddddddddd. PLAYERS TO WATCH IN WEEK NINE Jon Cornish, RB, Calgary - Slated to return from a concussion, the reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player, could make his return to the Stampeders lineup at Ottawa, to face a Redblacks team allowing a league-high 121 yards per game on the ground. If Cornish somehow isnt ready, the Stampeders can turn to Hugh Charles, who hit the ground running for the Stampeders, rushing for 102 yards on 14 carries against Hamilton last week. Matt Carter, WR, Ottawa - Despite a critical fumble against Edmonton last week, the Canadian wideout is emerging as a threat in the passing game, catching eight passes for 172 yards in the past two weeks, after 10 catches for 95 yards in the previous five games. His 267 yards receiving counts as a career high and hes likely to keep getting more looks from QB Henry Burris. Duron Carter, WR, Montreal - As much as the Alouettes passing game has been a mess, averaging a league-low 179 yards per game through the air, Carter is starting to make an impact, catching 17 passes for 181 yards in the past two games.
